Early Years Framework Written Answer, 05/08/10 [S]

Written Answer given in response to Margaret Smith's (LD) question asking the Scottish Executive what action it has taken since the publication of the Early Years Framework to commission an analysis of skills and skills gaps across the different professions in early years services; and what reflections it has made since the publication of the Early Years Framework on the priority areas in local early years continuing professional development and training programmes and what action has been taken as a result.

The Minister for Children and Early Years, Adam Ingram, replied that the Scottish Government has commissioned the University of Strathclyde to undertake a functional analysis across the children’s workforce. This is the first step in both helping the sector work together to identify the core skills everyone should have when working with children and allowing it to identify and fill skills gaps.
