Cross Party Group on Children and Young People, 06/10/05 [S]

The most recent meeting of the Cross Party Group on Children and Young People took place in Parliament on 6 October 2005 and looked at architecture and design for children and young people. This was a joint meeting with the Cross Party Group on Architecture and the Built Environment and was chaired by Robin Harper MSP.

A presentation was given by Keith Thomson from the School Estate Branch of the Scottish Executive Education Department. He showed a video about the new Public Private Partnership school, Queen Anne High, in Dunfermline.

Howard Liddell, Gaia Architects, spoke about involving children and young people in the design process. He focussed in particular on the Eco-City project that led to the Children's Parliament. Deepika Sharma, Louis Fraser and Jet Hay, who were all involved in this project, told the group about their experiences and the benefits of having a say in design.

Cerin  Richardson, Youthlink, updated the group on the Create Space Conference.

The next meeting of the Cross Party Group on Children and Young People is scheduled to take place in December. See the Scottish Parliament website for details.
