Cross Party Group on Children and Young People, 28/10/04 [S]

The last meeting of the Cross-Party Group on Children and Young People was held on 28 October 2004. Chaired by Janice Forsyth and featuring panels of MSPs, young people and professionals, the meeting discussed the current situation of children and young people's participation in decision making in Scotland.

The following points were raised during the meeting:

  • the need to identify areas where there may be gaps in participation

  • involving children and young people in the governance of organisations

  • unstructured participation

  • listening to how children and young people want to participate

  • involve them in financial decision-making with real responsibility

  • the need to build upon opportunities for all children and young people to participate

  • push the participation agenda with MSPs to take it forward
