Early Years Inquiry Call for Evidence, 07/02/05 [S]

The Scottish Parliament's Education Committee has launched an inquiry into the provision of preschool education and care across Scotland. The aim of the Education Committee 's inquiry is to examine progress by the Scottish Executive to deliver effective early years education and childcare in the light of Partnership Agreement commitments and forthcoming policy announcements. Written evidence should be submitted by 1 April 2005.

Consultation period: 07/02/05 to 01/04/05

The Committee are looking particularly at the following areas:

  • support for parenting

  • the variety of approaches in child development work and their implications for future policy

  • flexibility of childcare provision

  • availability of choice

  • provision for low income families


All written submissions will be published and it would be helpful if responses could be submitted by email to with the subject line of ""Early years"".

You can post your response to us on a 3_"" disk in Word format. If you cannot access email or a disk, your submission must be typed.

Hard copy submissions should be sent to: Paul Howell, T3.40, The Scottish Parliament, Holyrood, Edinburgh, EH99 1SP.

Submissions should not exceed 4 sides of A4 paper.

Following this first phase of the inquiry, the Committee will review the evidence received and then decide whether it wishes to call any witnesses to give evidence to it during the early part of the summer.
