Cross Party Group on Children & Young People, 22/04/05 [S]

The Cross Party Group on Children & Young People met on 21 April 2005. The meeting was chaired by Paul Kane, Member of Scottish Youth Parliament, and the topic for discussion was children's rights and the consistency of age thresholds across Scottish legislation.

This context for this discussion was the commitment made by Euan Robson, Deputy Minister for Education and Young People, during Stage 3 of the Education (Additional Support for Learning) (Scotland) Act to undertake 'consultation and wide discussion' of children's rights and capacity across Scottish legislation.

During the discussions group members agreed they would like to see all relevant legislation taken into account when legislation is going through the parliamentary process. Furthermore, that clear reasons are given as to why a particular age has been chosen.

The next meeting will be held on 23 June 2005 in the Scottish Parliament.
