Health Committee inquiry into health legislation, 06/05 [S]

The Scottish Parliament's Health Committee has called for written evidence on the implementation of the Community Care and Health (Scotland) Act 2002 and the Regulation of Care (Scotland) Act 2001. The Committee is particularly interested in views on whether the Acts are meeting their objectives and what aspects of implementation the Committee should be focussing their review on. Evidence must be submitted by 1 August 2005.

Consultation period: 06/05 to 1/08/05

The Community Care and Health (Scotland) Act 2002 provides for free personal and other care. It was intended to deliver improvements to people's care by creating more equitable care charging, offering improved choice to service users and their families, and encouraging joint working for more seamless delivery of care.

The Regulation of Care (Scotland) Act 2001 established the Care Commission, which regulates and inspects all care services. It was intended to modernise and standardise the regulation of care services.

The committee have prepared further information on the provisions in the Acts. Follow the external link to the right to read or download the papers.

The Committee is especially keen to hear from service providers and people who are directly affected by the legislation such as older people and carers.
