Equal Opportunities Committee takes further evidence for their Gypsy/ Traveller inquiry, 06/06/05 [S]

The Committee took oral evidence from representatives from Save the Children Scotland for their Gypsy/ Traveller inquiry at their meeting on 6 June 2005.

Key points raised by Save the Children in evidence were:

  • the disappointment at the lack of progress made following the significant and some radical approaches the Committee recommended in their report four years ago

  • at a national level discrimination against Gypsy/Travellers needs to be tackled directly as a priority

  • greater co-ordination is required to ensure that multiple and inter-connected problems are addressed

  • improved partnership working and community consultation is required to underpin all policy and service development

The full transcript of the meeting is available on the Scottish Parliament website, in the Equal Opportunities Committee Official Report 06/06/05.
