Consultation on further extension of coverage of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002, 12/06/15 - 04/09/15 [S]

A consultation paper seeking views on the Scottish Government's proposals to extend coverage of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 to contractors who run privately-managed prisons; providers of secure accommodation for children; grant-aided schools, and independent special schools.

The Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 provides a statutory right of access to information held by Scottish public authorities.

The provisions of the Act can be extended to bodies that carry out functions of a public nature or which provide, under a contract with a Scottish public authority, a service which is a function of that authority.

The Scottish Government has previously extended coverage of the Act to include a range of local authority arm's length organisations delivering sporting, cultural and leisure services.

The Government is now consulting on further extension of coverage - to contractors who run privately-managed prisons; providers of secure accommodation for children; grant-aided schools, and independent special schools.

For full details see the Scottish Government website.
