Early Years Education Written Answer, 18/06/15 [S]

Written Answer given in response to Anne McTaggart's (Lab) question asking the Scottish Government what role teachers have in (a) developing and (b) leading early years education.

The Minister for Children and Young People, Fiona McLeod, replied that the Scottish Government values the important role played by teachers in early learning and childcare, as part of the wider team of professionals working in those settings.

Annual national statistics collected by the Scottish Government show that the vast majority (85%) of children receiving the funded early learning and childcare entitlement have access to a teacher. This access can be full-time or part-time, where teachers may work across a number of settings, but what is important is that teachers are deployed in ways which make best use of their skills and experience.
