Mental Health Services Oral Question 26/02/2015 [S]

During First MInisters Question Time on 26 February 2015 Jenny Mara (Lab) asked the First Minister what action the Scottish Government is taking to ensure that children and adolescents receive the mental health services that they need as quickly as possible.

The First Minister replied, The Scottish Government have introduced the waiting times target that no one will wait longer than 18 weeks from referral to treatment for access to child and adolescent mental health services. However, when a child or young person is assessed as needing to access a service more urgently, they will be seen more quickly, sometimes on the same day. Since 2009, we have invested nearly 17 million and the specialist child and adolescent mental health services workforce has increased by 24 per cent. Of course, that is in the context of an increase of over 60 per cent in the number of children and young people seen over the past two years.
