Access to Medical Records Oral Question, 26/02/15 [S]

During General Question Time on 26 February 2015 Liz Smith (Con) asked the Scottish Government what provisions there are for parents to access the medical records of their children.

The Minister for Sport, Health Improvement and Mental Health, Jamie Hepburn replied, that a person who has parental responsibility for a young child can request access to the child’s medical records. A young person in Scotland aged 12 or above is generally considered mature enough to understand what a subject access request is. They can make their own request and would need to provide their consent to allow their parents to make a request for them.

For the full answer to this and any subsidiary questions see the Scottish Parliament Official Report 26 February 2015 which is available from the Scottish Parliament website.
