Record Number of Scots Rely on Foodbanks Motion, 20/01/15 [S]

Motion lodged before the Scottish Parliament on 20 January 2015 by Hanzala Malik (Lab) on Record Number of Scots Relied on Foodbanks. The full text of the motion reads:

That the Parliament is concerned that a record number of Scots relied on foodbanks in December 2014; notes that the Trussellís Trust records showed that 10,500 people visited its 48 Scottish branches, the highest figure it has ever recorded; also notes that the data recovered shows that a third of the users stated that this was not a result of delayed benefits but due to low income; understands that this is a 13% rise from the figure from December 2013 of 9,263, and considers that the issue needs to be appropriately addressed.
