Offensive Weapons Sentences Oral Question, 07/01/15 [S]

During Portfolio Question Time on 7 January 2015 Gill Paterson (SNP) asked the Scottish Government how the length of custodial sentences for handling an offensive weapon has changed during the last 10 years.

The Cabinet Secretary for Justice, Michael Matheson replied,the average length of custodial sentences for carrying an offensive weapon has increased for 10 years in a row and is now more than three times higher than it was a decade ago. Figures show that the average length of custodial sentences has increased, from 111 days in 2004-05 to 374 days in 2013-14.
