New award attracts employers, 15/12/14 [S]

Closer links between schools, college and employers will be at the heart of ambitious plans for a significant reduction in youth unemployment over the next seven years.

Since its announcement in July, the Investors in Young People award has captured the imagination of employers with a strong track record of training younger workers.

Over 30 organisations have already received accreditation with more than 50 more currently working with Investors in People on meeting the criteria to receive the award. Over 100 employers are also in preliminary discussions about commencing work towards accreditation.

The accolade was created following recommendations from the Commission for Developing Scotlandís Young Workforce earlier this year, backed up by £1 million funding from the Scottish Government.

The news comes ahead of the publication of a new youth employment strategy, which will also set out plans for how the Commissionís recommendations will be implemented, and follows the allocation of £6.5 million to local government to take forward a range of measures to improve vocational education around the country.
