Tackling Human Trafficking Motion, 15/12/14 [S]

Motion lodged before the Scottish Parliament on 15 December 2014 by Christina McKelvie (SNP) on Commitment to Tackling Human Trafficking.  The full text of the motion reads:

That the Parliament commends the Scottish Government on introducing, for the first time in the history of the Parliament, specific legislation to address the issue of human trafficking and exploitation through slavery, servitude and forced or compulsory labour; commends the government on this commitment; understands that the legislation will give adults the right to access the immediate support that is already provided to child victims and will provide clearer guidance for prosecutors; further understands that it will make a requirement for the Scottish Ministers to publish an anti-trafficking and exploitation strategy; believes that the legislation will be one step on the way to ridding Scotland of human trafficking, which, although considered an abhorrent crime that destroys lives, often takes place hidden from public view, and urges members to support the legislation.
