Unpaid Carers Oral Question, 23/09/14 [S]

During Question Time on 23 September 2014 James Dornan (SNP) asked the Scottish Government what steps it will take to improve support for unpaid carers.

The Minister for Public Health Michael Matheson, replied that the Scottish Government intend to introduce a carers bill that will extend and strengthen the rights of adult carers and young carers to help to ensure that they are much better supported.

The Scottish Government will continue to provide support to carers and young carers, investing nearly 114 million between 2007 and 2015 in a range of programmes and initiatives. That includes funding for carers initiatives through the reshaping care for older people change fund, providing funding to national health service boards for their carer information strategies and funding the voluntary sector short breaks fund.
