Young Carers Motion, 08/09/14 [S]

Motion lodged before the Scottish Parliament on 8 September 2014 by Christina McKelvie (SNP) on Young Carers.

The full text of the motion reads:

That the Parliament acknowledges the recent publication by the Scottish Youth Parliament, A Costly Youth: The Impact of Caring on Young People in Scotland; understands that this report seeks to raise awareness of the impact of not only the financial conditions but also the caring responsibilities faced by young carers and young adult carers aged between 12 and 25 in Scotland on their educational, social and emotional development; notes the report’s findings, which it considers demonstrate that the considerable financial strain experienced by many of Scotland’s young carers and young adult carers acts as a barrier to their educational and social development; is concerned that, while the report admits to being modest in scale and scope, it provides evidence of the strain experienced by young carers and young adult carers at a key point in their development, and hopes that this report can be a catalyst for all relevant bodies to engage to look to provide positive options and opportunities for young carers and young adult carers.
