Promoting and safeguarding the rights of young carers, 06/14 [S]

Without early identification and sufficient support, young carers’ life chances can be limited by their caring role. Young carers face particular barriers in relation to school and further education, where they may have frequent absences or be forced to hand in work late. Young carers value flexibility from those who understand the unpredictable nature of their caring. They also value face to face support, in particular from young carers’ groups. However, support for young carers varies markedly across Scotland. Young adult carers transitioning from young carer services face particular difficulties in accessing appropriate support.
