Scottish Survey of Literacy and Numeracy 2013, 30/04/14 [S]

The Scottish Government has published numeracy results from the 2013 Survey which covers assessment of school pupils at stages P4, P7 and S2. Questionnaire results from a pupil and a teacher questionnaire are also provided.

The figures indicate boys outperformed girls in numeracy at P7, whereas the performance of boys and girls was similar at P4 and S2. Also, pupils from more deprived backgrounds did not perform as well as their less deprived peers.

Comparisons to 2011 SSLN data indicate that the same proportion of S2 pupils were working well or very well in numeracy in both 2011 and 2013, however there were lower rates of numeracy attainment at the primary stages.

The Minister for Learning, Alasdair Allan, announced a roll-out of the numeracy hubs programme, which shares best practice between schools and local authorities. The funding for numeracy hubs will be increased by 1.02 million over three years to a total of 1.2 million, to allow creation of additional hubs and the expansion of the current six.
