Health Committee considers Public Bodies Bill, 21/01/14 [S]

During its meeting of 21 January 2014 the Scottish Parliament Health and Sport Committee considered the Public Bodies (Joint Working) Bill at Stage 2.

This Bill makes provisions to integrate health and social care.

The Committee considered amendments on issues including integration arrangements, payments to an integration authority, co-production, community planning, quality and strategic planning.

When asked about children's services the Cabinet Secretary for Health, Alex Neil, said:  "the bill does not restrict any partnership from taking on the additional responsibility of children’s services. Again, the informal, non-statutory partnerships are up and running and that is already happening in a number of them. There is no restriction on that and my personal view is that it would make sense for partnerships to do so in a number of circumstances".
