Good Practice Guidance - Implementation of Secure Accommodation Authorisation (Scotland) Regulations 2013, 14/06/13 [S]

The Scottish Government has published practice guidance on Implementation of Secure Accommodation Authorisation.

The primary purpose of this guidance is to support chief social work officers and heads of units (i.e. the person in charge of the residential establishment containing the secure accommodation in which the child is to be placed) to understand and comply with new legislative duties which have been specified in Section 151 of the Children’s Hearings (Scotland) Act 2011 and the Children’s Hearings (Implementation of Secure Accommodation Authorisation) (Scotland) Regulations 2013. This guidance may also be helpful to Children’s Reporters, Children’s Panel members, social workers and others involved in secure accommodation decision making in Scotland.

As this legislation is new, it is recognised that there will be a great deal of learning in the coming years about how best to implement aspects of these regulations. For this reason it is planned that this guidance will be updated and expanded in the future in order to ensure that this learning is shared.
