A guide to gathering views and ensuring parents’ voices are heard in your school, 28/03/13 [S]

The Scottish Government has published guidance to help Parent Councils canvass and represent the views of their parent forum.

This resource, developed by Children in Scotland for the Scottish Government, is intended to help Parent Councils better develop an environment where all parents and carers know that their views, opinions and ideas are valued. It draws on feedback from Parent Councils and has benefited from input from local authority representatives and the National Parent Forum of Scotland.

The document reflects on the important role Parent Councils’ play in representing all parents’ views focusing on the important things to consider for any consultation. It then provides guidance on different methods of consultation – surveys; focus groups; meetings/events; and the option of taking a more informal approach.

For full details see Parent Council Resource: A guide to gathering views and ensuring parents’ voices are heard in your school which is available from the Scottish Government website.
