Education Committee looks at taking children into care, 05/03/13 [S]

During its meeting of 5 March 2013 the Scottish Parliament Education and Culture Committee took evidence as part of its inquiry into taking children into care.

The Committee heard from Claire Burns, strategic policy implementation manager at the centre for excellence for looked after children in Scotland (CELCIS); Jennifer Davidson, the director of CELCIS; Ann Darlington, operational director of children’s services at Action for Children; and Malcolm Schaffer, head of policy at the Scottish Children’s Reporter Administration.

The Committee also took evidence from the Minister for Children and Young People, Aileen Campbell on the draft Children’s Hearings (Scotland) Act 2011 (Transfer of Children to Scotland—Effect of Orders made in England and Wales or Northern Ireland) Regulations 2013. The draft regulations will ensure that children moving to Scotland who are already subject to a care, supervision or education order made in England, Wales or Northern Ireland will continue to have compulsory supervision and meaningful local support from the date of their arrival in Scotland.
