LGBT Young People Motion, 14/12/12 [S}

Motion lodged before the Scottish Parliament on 14 December 2012 by Marco Biagi (SNP) on Life in Scotland for LGBT Young People.

The full text of the motion reads:

That the Parliament welcomes the report, Life in Scotland for LGBT Young People: Education Report, which highlights the experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) young people in Scotlandís schools, colleges and universities; notes that the report showed that 69% of all LGBT respondents had experienced homophobic or biphobic bullying in school, 25% in college and 14% at university and that 14% have left education as a result; understands that the reportís research on transgender issues in education in Scotland is the first of its kind; highlights with concern that 77% of transgender respondents in schools and colleges said that they had experienced bullying; believes that there is no place for homophobia or transphobia in modern Scotland; welcomes the work that is carried out by LGBT Youth Scotland and the Scottish Government in tackling the problem, and looks forward to homophobia and transphobia being a thing of the past in Scotlandís schools, colleges and universities.
