Autumn Statement, 05/12/12 [E/NI/S/W]

Statement in the House of Commons on 5 December 2012 by Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osbourne.

The Chancellor's Autumn Statement updates MPs on the state of the economy and the government's future plans.

Among the key points are:

  • There will be one per cent cap on increases on certain benefits payments over the next three years
  • Child benefit (currently frozen) to rise by 1% for two years from April 2014
  • Basic income tax threshold to be raised by 235 more than previously announced next year, to 9,440
  • Spending review to take place in first half of next year
