Equal Opportunities Committee looks at homelessness and Gypsy/Travellers, 26/06/12 [S]

During its meeting of 26 June 2012 the Scottish Parliament Equal Opportunities Committee took evidence from the Scottish Government as part of the having and keeping a home inquiry.

The Committee heard from the Minister for Transport and Housing, Keith Brown. Issues discussed included benefits, supported accomodation, financial education, and housing hubs.

The Committee also took evidence from the Minister for Public Health, Michael Matheson, as part of the Gypsy Travellers and care inquiry. Other witnesses were Jean MacLellan, adult care and support division, Scottish Government; and Alastair Pringle  from the patient focus and equalities branch of the chief nursing officer, patients, public and health professions directorate of the Scottish Government.

Issues raised included hand-held records, sites and illegal encampments, healthcare and access to GP services, community pharmacies, and self-directed support.
