Paternity Leave Written Answer, 02/07/12 [E/NI/S/W]

Written Answer given in the House of Commons on 2 July 2012 in response to Kate Green's (Lab) question asking the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills how many fathers and partners have taken additional paternity leave since its commencement in 2011; and what steps his Department has taken to publicise such entitlement.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Employment Relations, Consumer and Postal Affairs, Norman Lamb, replied that there are no official statistics available yet on the take-up rates for additional paternity leave. HM Revenue and Customs anticipate that they will have early indications of take-up rates in the autumn.

A short pilot publicity campaign is being run via Bounty to raise awareness of all maternity and paternity entitlements, including the entitlement to additional paternity leave. There is also guidance available online.

For the full answer to this and other questions see the House of Commons Hansard 2 July 2012 which is available from the UK Parliament website.
