Equal Opportunities Committee looks at women and work, 21/02/12 [S]

During its meeting of 21 February 2012 the Scottish Parliament Equal Opportunities Committee held a round table discussion on the work-related issues that women face.

The discussion will inform an inquiry planned for later in the year. Those giving evidence to the committee were: Margaret Boyd, Scottish Trades Union Congress; Emma Ritch, Close the Gap; Linda Somerville, Scottish Resource Centre for Women in Science, Engineering and Technology; Kirsty Connell, Scottish Trades Union Congress youth committee; Pauline Rourke, STUC general council; Barbra Farmer, STUC disabled workers committee; Elaine Dougall, STUC women's committee; Ann Henderson, STUC assistant secretary; and Anne-Marie Mackin, Play First (Scotland).

Issues discussed included working hours, childcare, the childcare workforce, underemployment, employers, stereotyping roles, and welfare reform.
