Roots of empathy Motion, 15/11/11 [S]

Motion lodged before the Scottish Parliament on 15 November 2011 by Margaret Mitchell (Cons) on the Roots of Empathy scheme.

The full text of the motion reads:

That the Parliament welcomes the rolling out of the Roots of Empathy scheme to 16 local authorities across Scotland, including South Lanarkshire; understands that this follows a successful pilot at New Stevenston Primary School, Motherwell; acknowledges that Roots of Empathy is a classroom-based intervention programme that aims to reduce bullying and aggression in schools in the short term and seeks to encourage, in the longer term, future generations to be compassionate citizens and good parents; understands that the programme has a proven track record of success internationally, including in Canada, New Zealand and the USA; believes that the programme runs at no additional cost to the schools involved, and hopes that the scheme continues to grow and that it will soon be delivered in even more schools across Scotland
