Consultation on Processing fee for intercountry adoptions, 16/03/11 - 30/05/11 [S]

The Scottish Government is consulting on the proposal to charge an administrative fee for processing overseas adoption applications by Scottish Ministers. Consultation to 30 May 2011.

The fee being considered by Scottish Ministers is 1,775, will come into force from 1 August 2011 and will only affect Scottish residents who wish to adopt from abroad. Over the past 15 years the Scottish Government has received an average of 17 applications a year for intercountry adoptions. It is proposed that the fee will be means tested. Consideration is being given to whether those adopting a close family member (e.g. niece, nephew or grandchild) will be exempt from the fee.

Responses to the consultation should be sent to lookedafterchildren2@scotland.gsi.gov.uk or to:
