Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations Oral Question, 03/02/11 [S]

During First Minister's Question Time on 3 February 2011 Christine Grahame (SNP) asked the First Minister what discussions have taken place with representatives of the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations, given the likelihood of job losses in the third sector due to budgetary constraints.

The First Minister, Alex Salmond, replied that the Scottish Government is in regular contact with the organisation. The Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Sustainable Growth met it and a range of third sector organisations to discuss the independent budget review, and on 26 January officials attended the SCVO policy committee.

The Westminster cuts have had an impact across the third sector and the Government is committed to working with the sector to protect services wherever it can. The SCVO is well represented on the Christie commission, which is important given the vital role that the third sector plays in providing vital services, especially for the disadvantaged.
