Petitions Committee considers petitions on ill heath and Schools Consultation Act, 25/01/11 [S]

During its meeting of 25 January 2011 the Scottish Parliament Public Petitions Committee considered new petitions on children absent from school through ill health and on the Schools Consultation (Scotland) Act.

PE1381, by Gwen Garner on behalf of Action for Sick Children (Scotland), is on education provision for children and young people absent from school because of illness.

PE1382 by Laurence Slavin seeks to review and strengthen the Schools Consultation (Scotland) Act 2010 and accompanying guidance.

Other new petitions considered at this meeting included PE1384, by Kim Hartley on behalf of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists, entitled, "Giving Voice—speech and language therapy transforms lives"; and  PE1385, by Shona Haslam, on behalf of Asthma UK Scotland youth ambassadors, which seeks to improve the lives of children across Scotland who have asthma.

The Committee also considered current petitions on school bus safety, disclosure procedures, and on teacher jobs.
