Improving Maternal and Infant Nutrition: A Framework for Action, 18/01/11 [S]

The Scottish Government has published a framework for action which can be taken by NHS Boards, local authorities and others to improve the nutrition of pregnant women, babies and young children in Scotland.

The strategy highlights the importance of diet and preconception health for mothers, the feeding received by the infant in the first few months of life, the process of weaning onto solid foods and the diet and nutrition status of the growing infant.

It also advises that women planning a pregnancy should take vitamin D supplements as well as folic acid. It also notes the importance of not waiting too long to introduce lumpy food to babies when they are being weaned.

For full details see Improving Maternal and Infant Nutrition: A Framework for Action which is available from the Scottish Government website.
