At their meeting on 25 May 2005 the Education Committee considered the Early Years Inquiry. Written evidence was submitted from local authorities and other service providers.

The Committee considered written evidence on the Early Years Inquiry. Key issues arising from the evidence submitted included the early years workforce, ways of teaching or choice of services, support to parents, concerns about integrated services and the impact on services of recent changes in inspection and regulation.

The Committee agreed to take formal oral evidence in the autumn and delegated the development of proposals for possible international visits in relation to the inquiry to the Convener. It delegated authority to the Convener to approve a related research proposal.
