Early Years Written Answer, 03/02/12 [S]

Written Answer given in response to John Park's (Lab) question asking the Scottish Executive how much of the Early Years Early Action Fund has been allocated; to what projects; how many families are receiving the fund, and in what way; and what mechanisms it has in place to ensure that the Early Years Early Action Fund improves the (a) quality, (b) accessibility, (c) affordability and (d) flexibility of childcare and what improvements the fund has provided in these areas.

The Minister for Children and Young People, Aileen Campbell, replied that the entire Early Years Early Action Fund for the financial year 2011-12 has now been allocated. The Minister listed the projects receiving funding. The total number of children currently benefiting from the Early Years Early Action Fund is 2509. This number will increase as the projects being funded become fully operational.

The £6.8 million Early Years Early Action Fund was set up to support the broad aims of the Early Years Framework, particularly in the area of early intervention. The fund is administered by Inspiring Scotland on behalf of the Scottish Government. As part of Inspiring Scotland’s ongoing engagement with the projects funded, quarterly reviews are carried out with each organisation. As this is a new fund, the projects are still in their first quarter period of activity. Scottish Government will remain informed of project outcomes and progress via Inspiring Scotland.
