During the meeting of the Scottish Parliament on 15 March 2006 MSPs debated a motion on the importance of play. Kenneth Macintosh (Lab) called for a play strategy and highlighted the importance of play in tackling obesity and antisocial behaviour. The Deputy Minister for Education and Young People said that a policy statement located in the wider matter of child development may be more influential than a stand alone play strategy.
